Jump into summer with this perfect reading list that will keep you occupied!

Whether you are a book worm- or prefer to watch the motion pictures; you can never go wrong with a good book! Share us your favourite novels that you feel should make it to the list next!

Young Adult Fantasy Recommendation:

The Night Circus

By Erin Morgenstern

Genre: Light fantasy/ Magical realism

“The circus arrives without warning. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.”

I will be very honest: this is one of my favourite books of all time. (High praise, I know!) What makes this book so brilliant, in my opinion, is the writing style. This book truly transported me into the circus and I felt like I was walking through the tents and could smell and see everything around me, which was a very magical experience in and of itself. I really hope that if I can convince you to pick up any book, it will be this one. Enjoy the magic!

Young Adult Murder Mystery Recommendation: (16+)

One Of Us Is Lying

By Karen M. McManus

Genre: Contemporary/Murder Mystery

Five strangers walk into detention, four walk out alive, each of them is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.

If you want to get into reading but aren’t sure if it's something you will enjoy, read this book. It is a very quick read since it is simply impossible to put down!! I think the strongest aspect are the characters, who are very well rounded and fully fleshed out throughout the story. I definitely recommend this one if you are in the mood for a mystery this summer.

Young Adult Contemporary Recommendation:

When Dimple Met Rishi

By Sandhya Menon

Genre: Contemporary/ Romance

Dimple wants to get into university and begin her tech-world domination. Rishi is a hopeless romantic and his parents think Dimple is the perfect match for him. However when they meet each other at a web development summer program, chaos ensues.

Although at times a bit cheesy, this romance is perfect for a satisfying summer read. It is both adorable and funny, while also being able to touch on some more complex topics, such as tradition and privilege. So sweeten up your summer, by picking up this cute YA romance!

Bonus: General recommendation:

Reread your favourite book series!

Whether it is (re)reading the Narnia books, the maze runner series, or the “To all the boys I’ve loved before” trilogy! Now that we have a 2 months summer holiday, this is the perfect moment to start, finish or simply reread a book series!

I am personally hoping to read the “Infernal Devices” trilogy by Cassandra Clare. Other series I would recommend giving a try include: Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments, His Dark Materials trilogy, The Hungergames Trilogy, and The Hazel Wood duology.

There it is! Join the KCDSpeaks book club by reading these books, sending your take on them & then sharing some new reads that we can add to the list next month! Just email us your views & recommendations on: newspaper@kentcollege.ae - Or DM us on instagram (@kcdspeaks)
