This article was written by Eleeza Zahir, Year 9

National Day is on 2nd December each year to celebrate the union of the United Arab Emirates. To celebrate National Day, every year Dubai holds impressive celebrations all over the country. Some of the most common ways Dubai celebrates is by lighting fireworks, car

rallies and dance shows for everyone to participate in, however, if you can’t do any of these, most people just dress up in UAE’s national colours and decorate their homes!

Origin of the UAE: Let’s take a peek back in time on how the United Arab Emirates formed! It was December 2nd 1971 when the rulers of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah, Sharjah, Umm al-Quwain and Ajman decided to unite as one whole country. The nation's first president, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan led the United Arab Emirates and was known as the father of the nation. In February 1972 Ras al Khaimah agreed to join and become the seventh emirate of the UAE.
